Abstract

BACKGROUND: Primary hypertension, accounting for over 90% of hypertension cases, is a
major risk factor for coronary, cerebral, and peripheral vascular diseases. While its exact etiology
remains unclear, serum sodium and potassium levels significantly influence blood pressure
regulation.
AIM: To study the levels of serum sodium and potassium in newly diagnosed essential
hypertension and healthy individuals and to correlate it with risk factors.
