Background:
Beta-thalassemia major is a transfusion-dependent hematologic disorder that
predisposes patients to iron overload and subsequent endocrine dysfunction, including
hypothyroidism.
Objective:
To determine the prevalence and types of hypothyroidism in children with beta
thalassemia major undergoing oral chelation therapy.
