Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by variable degree of 
insulin resistance, impaired insulin secretion and increased glucose production. Diabetes is fast gaining the status 
of a potential epidemic in India with more than 62 million diabetic individuals currently diagnosed with the 
disease. One of the efficient antidiabetic drugs forming a milestone in the treatment of T2DM is Metformin.
